Basically, there is a high powered Sultan named Shahriyar, and after finding that his wife was unfaithful to him, he killed her. Because of her actions, he became paranoid and decreed to marry a new women every day and then kill her by morning to prevent any other relationship like the previous one with his first wife. One day he Shahrazad, the Wezir’s daughter, agrees to marry him.
She thinks of a genius plan to end his daily pattern. She began to tell him a story every day, but the catch was that everyday she would leave him off with a cliffhanger right in the middle of the story and then the next day finish that story and then start the next one and leave him on a cliffhanger again. She repeated this pattern everyday. This would cause the sultan to become amused and keep her alive. She repeats this pattern for 1001 nights until Shahrayar has a change of heart. Through the plot events, we see the author’s message that fate and destiny are reversible. Some of the important points that prove this message are how Shahrazad was destined to be executed yet she geniusly plotted a plan to stay alive.
An important quote from the book that reinforces the theme is “Shahrazad possessed courage, wit, and penetration. She had read much, and had so admirable a memory, that she never forgot anything she had read. She had successfully applied herself to philosophy, medicine, history, and the liberal arts; and her poetry excelled the compositions of the best writers of her time. Besides this, she was a perfect beauty, and all her accomplishments were crowned by solid virtue.” on page 7. This is important because it gives background knowledge about Shahrazad. It treats her as perfect as a role model. It makes us understand how she thought of such a genius plan.I find this book very entertaining, interesting, and instructive.
Due to the many rich stories in this ancient book, it is easy to loose yourself while gazing into the entertaining stories of this book. I also find this book interesting because of the stories Shahrazad tells the Sultan.
I find this interesting because the stories that we know now, including Aladdin, were still told back then too. That would date these stories back hundreds of years. This book is instructive in the sense that everyone can learn a thing or two from Shahrazad. She never gave up and beat the odds. Shahrazad is a role model for women everywhere who are initially being treated as inferior to men.Although this was a or slow read, it is worth the time because the stories Shahrazad tells are so entertaining and interesting. This book will keep you on your toes for hours! After reading the last page of The 1001 Arabian Nights, the reader is left with the feeling of sadness knowing that you've finished all these ancient stories as if you want more. As humans, we should take the advice of the author which is to never give up and beat the odds.

Push through the suffering because the outcome is worth it. After reading this book, I have to agree with the author that the Sultan was very cruel to the women and Shahrazad saved the other women from death. Fate and destiny is a fascinating topic because it is very unclear to most of us and thats what makes it interesting. This book is worth our time because it helps us appreciate ancient writing.
